Amana
The Amana Corporation was founded by George Foerstner as Amana Refrigeration in 1934 in Amana, Iowa to manufacture commercial walk-in coolers. The business was owned by the Amana Society. In 1947, it manufactured the first upright freezer for the home, and in 19 added a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. In 1950, the company was sold to a group of investors including its founder, and became Amana Refrigeration, Inc. In 1954, they began making air conditioners. Amana was acquired in 1965 by Raytheon, which had invented the microwave oven in 1947, and introduced the commercial Radarange model 1611 in 1954. In 1967 Amana introduced a consumer model of the Radarange, the first popular microwave designed for home use. Amana has since expanded into manufacturing a variety of other appliances including furnaces, ovens, countertop ranges, dishwashers, and clothes washers and dryers. Amana became a part of the Maytag Corporation in 2001, and then part of the Whirlpool Corporation in 2006.

Bertazzoni
The family firm that makes the new Bertazzoni Professional Series of range stoves was founded more than 120 years ago in 1882. Their remarkable story is linked to their home town of Guastalla, 90 miles southeast of Milan, as well as the early influences of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the upheavals two World Wars.
Craft technology
Cooking is culture, and the Italians are among the best cooks in the world. Bertazzoni comes from a region of Italy famous both for its food and for its engineering. Knowing all about the craft of cooking has given Bertazzoni a special pedigree of success.
Today, Bertazzoni stoves are sold all over the world, and as a result of the company's constant improvements in design and manufacturing techniques, production has doubled since 1999. But the quality standards that guide every aspect of design and production remain constant.
Out of the empire
The Bertazzoni name first became well known in Italy as a producer of fine wood-burning cooking stoves early in the last century. But the story of the familys remarkable enterprise and engineering began even earlier in the 19th century, during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
It was then that Francesco Bertazzoni, founder of the dynasty, started to make weighing machines for dairies, offices and pharmacies around his home town of Guastalla.
Guastalla lies north east of Parma on the River Po in the region Emilia-Romagna. The building of the Parma-Suzzara railroad connected it with the industrial centers of the north and eastwards into the heart of the Empire. And so it was by rail that wood-burning cooking stoves first arrived here from Austria, brought by Austrian trainmen.
Then as now, Emilia-Romagna was the heartland of Italian food, and these wood-burning stoves set Francesco to thinking. He was in no hurry however, and it was some years later towards the end of the century before he and his son Antonio decided to make their own cooking stoves just for local use to begin with, and in very small quantities.

Broan
In the midst of the Great Depression, two aggressive young men emerged with two new products that would make major contributions to the housing industry. In 1932, Henry Broan developed and manufactured a kitchen fan called the Motordor® Fan that provided quiet and efficient kitchen ventilation. His creation launched what is today known as Broan-NuTone LLC. Four years later, in 1936, J. Ralph Corbett developed a melodious door chime replacing the obnoxious door buzzer of the time. His development launched what is today known as NuTone, Inc.
Both men, headquartered in the Midwest, started their companies with a simple product and a few employees. Each expanded their companies, creating revolutionary new products that provided unmatched conveniences for homeowners nationwide. Both quickly became global companies and continued to provide innovative, superior products to meet the needs of consumers.
In 1981, Broan Mfg. Co., Inc. was acquired by Nortek, Inc. and became the lead company of Nortek's Residential Building Products Group, which was named the Broan Group.
During this same time period, NuTone was sold to Scovill Manufacturing in 1967 and was then acquired by Williams plc in 1991. In 1998, Nortek acquired NuTone, adding it to the Broan Group and renaming the group the Broan-NuTone Group. Then, in January 2000, Broan Mfg. Co., Inc. became Broan-NuTone LLC, with NuTone Inc., Aubrey Manufacturing, Inc. and Rangaire LP as subsidiaries.
Today, Broan-NuTone LLC is headquartered in Hartford, Wis. and employs more than 3,200 people in six countries on three continents. It is North Americas largest producer of residential ventilation products such as range hoods, ventilation fans and indoor air quality products and also holds major market positions in chimes, central vacuums, intercom systems, medicine cabinets, built-in electric heaters, whole-house fans, attic ventilators, paddle fans, ironing centers, trash compactors and speakers.

Faber
The design of Faber hoods uses the principle coined by the famous American architect Louis Henry Sullivan that, "form follows function". Design is important, but if a rangehood does not work properly or provide adequate ventilation for your kitchen, then our customers would not be satisfied.
The rangehood was the last appliance in the kitchen to be influenced by design. Faber was the first company to bring innovation and design elements to the chimney hood (the Nova rangehood), which set the bar for chimney wall rangehoods over 20 years ago. Faber designs rangehoods knowing that a strong aesthetic impact can be made on the kitchen with ventilation. We know design is important in your decision process, so there are a large number of designs available to choose from depending on your taste. From fashion forward and contemporary to traditional and classic, Faber has the right design for you!

Fisher & Paykel
Fisher & Paykel's heritage dates to the 1930 with the manufacture of designs made under licence. The pioneering spirit established by the founders encouraged a culture that challenged conventional appliance design and production systems by making appliances under licence we determined that we were only destined to make a more expensive version of other products. We couldn't generate economies of scale so we had to find other ways of creating a point of difference in our markets.
The answer lay in technology. By developing plastic liners and insulation using polyurethane foam we were the first in the world to commercialize this technology.
Another major breakthrough came in the late 1960s when the company saw the need to find a way of producing short runs of various models through common manufacturing machinery.
The idea of being able to make every model every day, just in time, had become reality and export opportunities opened up.
Learning to control flexible machinery lines during this phase had started to create another major advantage that was to come in the future.
Flexible machinery brought with it the notion of manufacturing cabinets using prepainted steel. In tandem with the Japanese steel mills appliance grade pre-painted steel was developed that enabled coiled steel to be processed through lines of machinery that could notch and pierce various sizes and shapes. The first product to incorporate this technology was the compact dryer. A ground up design conceived by our own engineers.
This technology carried over into refrigerators and washing machines and is now standard across all of our appliance range.

VentAHood
Vent-A-Hood limited is a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit. In 1937, Carr P. Collins, Sr., a Dallas financier and founder of fidelity union life insurance company, financed this family-owned company. Miles Woodall, Jr., nephew of Collins, was recruited in 1938 to manage the company. Today, his son, Miles Woodall III, is CEO of the company. The company moved to Richardson in 1961.
Vent-A-Hood was the first manufacturer of home cooking ventilation and range hoods. The first range hoods were manufactured in a house with a dirt floor in Dallas, and then sold door-to-door. The owners would literally go out and make a sale, then return to the shop to make the hood for the customer. The primary ingredient in the success of kitchen exhaust hoods is Vent-A-Hood blower system. throughout the years, hoods have been improved, but the original concept is central to the design and remains unequalled in the field of ventilation.
Vent-A-Hood has developed an excellent reputation throughout the ventilation industry by offering a top quality in stock range hood, as well as handmade craftsmanship in their product recognition.
Currently housed in a modern manufacturing facility, vent-a-hood employs a highly skilled workforce to achieve quality craftsmanship. A national as well as an international marketing program includes an impressive roster of distributors, many of which are second generation. Vent-A-Hood products are sold in all fifty states, as well as Canada.
Vent-A-Hood has experienced steady and consistent growth throughout its history and continues to have excellent growth potential. In 2005 it enlarged its manufacturing space 50% to keep up with range hood demand. The company looks forward to a bright future.
Viking
In the 1980's Fred Carl, Jr., founder and president of Viking Range, discovered some major flaws in the design of commercial appliances with respect to their installation in a residential kitchen. These flaws among other things made them impractical and undesirable for use in the home. After much research and development, Carl worked through the problems and finally introduced the first commercial-type range in 1987. Since then the company has expanded with its increased success and currently manufactures such premium items as cookware, cutlery and countertop appliances. Viking also plans to begin commercial distribution of professional dishwashers by 2008.
The establishment of Viking's hometown of Greenwood, Mississippi as a tourist destination came with the opening of The Alluvian Hotel on Howard Street in 2003. Built as a subsidiary of Viking Range, The Alluvian is a cosmopolitan boutique hotel located in the heart of historic downtown Greenwood.
In 2005, Greenwood got a big shot of urbana with the opening of a 7,000-square-foot spa, a cooking school and a bakery. The Alluvian Spa, Viking Cooking School and the Mockingbird Bakery are all the work of Viking Hospitality Group, and serve as entertainment only for the corporate clientele that Viking brings to town for training and demonstrations.

Zephyr
When co-founder Alex Siow seized on the idea that everything in the home is an opportunity for personal expression, he began by elevating the hood to its rightful place: no longer an afterthought, the hood stands above all, as distinctive in its performance as it is in its beauty. Since the launch of our first hoods in 1997, we have remained true to our vision of delivering the unexpected by deliberately seeking to change the marketplace.
Alex was first to recognize the unmet demand for more powerful, professional-grade hoods in the home. And we answered with the Power series, high-CFM performers that put air quality concerns to rest with quiet efficiency and raised the bar with self-cleaning, filter-free technologies never before available. After putting the power back into ventilation, the Europa line ushered in a new millennium with a style-forward clarion call to those who could find little inspiration above the range. Since then we have taken our vision ever higher, working with some of the world's best designers to find beauty in the everyday and create collections that are truly unlike any other.
Like California Fu-Tung Cheng, the kitchen and bath design guru who has inspired millions with his books and ideas. And Italy's acclaimed Elica design team, featuring the renowned Bang + Olufsen designer David Lewis, who contributes his radically innovative aesthetic to a collection of daring works that never go unnoticed.
Its all for you. Look beyond the expected, and together, we'll discover new possibilities
